01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

At Yashiki, part of the fun is choosing how to season your takoyaki: options include sauce, soy sauce, rock salt, yuzu ponzu and a secret curry salt. The balls are made with rice oil and described on the menu as crisp outside and soft within, making it easy to compare the different seasonings. Choose a serving from 6 pieces for 390 yen to 15 pieces for 770 yen. Mayonnaise, aonori seaweed and bonito flakes are free, while spring onion and cheese can be added for 50 yen. Some diners have opted for half sauce and half soy sauce; another ordered 10 pieces with salt. One customer who tried the salt seasoning praised the toasted exterior, soft centre and satisfying chunks of octopus.

For a more substantial meal, add yakisoba. One diner who ordered a set lunch reported that the Worcestershire sauce did not overpower the noodles, and that the balance of sweetness and heat was just right. The noodles were a little thick and pleasantly chewy. The set also came with seasoned rice, clear soup, a side dish and two takoyaki. Yakisoba ordered on its own has also drawn praise, so you can pair it with takoyaki for a lighter meal or make it part of a lunch set.

Some customers have paired their takoyaki with draft beer. Drinks include Asahi Super Dry on tap, sours in flavours such as lemon, lime and shikuwasa (400 yen), and plum wine (450 yen), served on the rocks, with water or with soda. Small plates such as chanja with cream cheese (480 yen) and jellyfish with ponzu (480 yen) are also available.

Yashiki offers both dine-in and takeaway, with set meals for lunch and small plates in the evening. Whether you want to compare takoyaki seasonings or take your time over yakisoba and sides, you can build a meal to suit the occasion.
